4th of July Cupcake decoration ideas.

Fondant covered cupcakes can look very professional.  With a few cookie cutters you can make amazing looking cupcakes in seconds.

Stars and Stipes

Cupcake:

Start with your favorite cupcake base.  Because these cupcakes don’t have mounds of icing piled on top, you may want to fill the cupcakes first. (These are red velvet cupcakes with a sweet cream cheese filling.)

Then top with a very thin coat of icing.  It should be such a thin layer that it is see through. This will act as glue for our fondant cover.

Tip:

If the icing is put on too thick the fondant cover will slip and slide off.

Fondant:

Cover your workspace with powdered sugar too help prevent your fondant from sticking to the counter.

You can color the fondant using gel food colors.  Roll the fondant out like you would dough.

Tip:

(Water food colors will color the fondant but will also make it so sticky that it will be impossible to roll it out.  Even if you get it rolled you’ll have fun scraping it from your counter.)

Use circle cookie cutters about the size of the top of your cupcakes to cut out your canvas.  Cover your cupcakes with these circles.  Use various other cutters to decorate.

For these Stars and Stripes cupcakes I used a pizza cutter for the stripes.
